A 31-year-old passenger was killed on the FDR Drive Tuesday morning as the SUV that started a deadly chain reaction fled the scene, NYPD officials said.
The white SUV was traveling northbound at about 2 a.m. when it struck a vehicle at East 84th Street which then struck a third and fourth vehicle, according to police.
The victim was in a 2001 Toyota Camry. He was taken to Metropolitan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The white SUV reportedly had heavy front end and left side damage and likely could not travel far.
The deadly collision caused heavy delays in the area as all northbound lanes were closed for a portion of the morning rush Tuesday.
Investigators were searching for the SUV and its driver.
