N.J. Synagogue Firebombed

Authorities say someone threw explosive devices into the second floor residence of a synagogue in Rutherford, N.J. early Wednesday. The incident is being investigated as an attempted murder and bias-related arson.

Rutherford Police Capt. Hal Ciser tells The Record no one was injured in the fire at Congregation Beth El Wednesday.

There have been no arrests in the attack. Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli will hold a news conference in Hackensack at 2 p.m. to discuss further details in the case.

The fire comes one day before law enforcement and representatives from more than 80 synagogues and Jewish day schools are expected to discuss three separate incidents targeting Jewish temples in Bergen County.

There was a suspicious fire and two anti-Semitic graffiti incidents in the past few weeks.
