7-year-old boy dead, seven people injured Brooklyn 3 alarm fire

A 7-year-old boy was killed in a fire that raced through his Brooklyn apartment building early Sunday.

The three-alarm fire broke out around 1:20 a.m. inside the three-story building on Decatur St. in Bushwick, officials said.

The boy, Joel Smith, was found unconscious inside and died at the scene, police said. Three other people were injured, one critically, and rushed to local hospitals.

It took firefighters nearly an hour and a half to bring the ferocious blaze under control.

The cause of the fire was under investigation but not suspicious, FDNY officials said.
