A grocery store owner was shot and killed at his New Jersey store Saturday afternoon.

Police say that 47-year old Eduardo Leaty and an unidentified employee suffering from gunshot wounds when members of the Union County Prosecutors office arrived to Leaty Grocery Store on 801 E. 6th Street in Plainfield.

Leaty was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead after arrival.

According to a Prosecutor spokesman John Holl, the store employee is expected to survive from his injuries.

The neighbors gathered around the store throughout the afternoon and some broke down in tears when they found out that Leaty had died.

"He was an awesome guy," said Yolanda Belin, 31. "He'd even give you credit if you were short on cash and needed to buy some bread."

Neighbors said Leaty would never stay open late and he would not allow people to loiter inside or outside his store for long.

Police say that they have no suspects and are still investigating the incident.
