Hate Crime Charges After Jew Attacked

Ramapo, N.Y. police arrested two people on hate crime charges after an attack on a Jewish man.

Police say it happened at about 11:49 p.m. on Monday. Police say they got a call about a man screaming on Grove St.

Witnesses say two black men in their late teens to early twenties had come up behind the victim and hit him in the head. They ran away when the victim started screaming for help.

Police found one of the men running away from responding vehicles. After a foot chase, they caught Stanley Joseph, 18, of Suffern.

Other witnesses gave police a vehicle description and license plate that lead officers to the second suspect, Jennifer St. Amand, 20, of Suffern.

Police say the suspects made statements that they were specifically targeting Jewish community members so they face hate crime charges along with robbery charges. Joseph also faces an assault charge and St. Amand faces an additional charge related to making a false statement.
