2 People Fatally Struck by Train on Long Island

Authorities say two people have been struck and killed by a train on Long Island.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Sam Zambuto says the two victims were struck on the tracks just west of the Copiague Station on the Long Island Rail Road's Babylon Branch at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Zambuto says the two female victims were struck by a non-passenger carrying train. MTA police are investigating.

He says both east and westbound service has been restored between Penn Station and Wantagh. Service, though, remains suspended in both directions between Wantagh and Babylon.
