Five men were arrested Thursday on charges of stealing boxes of counterfeit sneakers from a building in the Fashion District.
It happened early in the morning at a building on West 35th Street.
Investigators say an off-duty officer noticed two men wearing masks with hoods over their heads.
Police say the men and several others broke into the building and later loaded a truck with boxes.
Officers gave chase and the men were later arrested on burglary charges.
About 50 boxes of sneakers were recovered.
Police are investigating where the counterfeit sneakers came from and have yet to file charges against the original owner.
