NYPD Officer Knocked Out During Subway Track Scuffle

A city police officer is recovering after being knocked unconscious while trying to subdue an emotionally disturbed person in the subway system Thursday morning.

Officials say the 41-year-old Emergency Services Unit officer hit his head on the rail of the southbound N tracks during the struggle in Times Square.

He was trying to pull the man on the tracks to safety at the time of the incident.

Fellow officers were able to subdue the man and rescue their colleague.

The officer, an 18-year veteran of the force, later regained consciousness at Bellevue Hospital and remains in stable condition.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly visited the officer where he is said to be in good spirits.
