RED HOOK — Cops busted six alleged drug dealers and arrested six others in a joint sweep at the Red Hook HousesWednesday, wrapping up a six-month investigation titled "Operation Red Dawn" by the NYPD and the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, prosecutors announced in a press release.
Rodney Brown, Jurmain Cecilia, Lydia Livingston, Rashime DeVaughn, Jenine Tunstall and Karen Vaughn allegedly sold heroin, cocaine and marijuana out of public housing apartments in a half-block area centered at Dwight and Lorraine streets, the DA's office said. They were hit with drug-sale and fourth-degree conspiracy charges.
Clarence Gilliam, Sonae Ketter, Jenette Mays, Jonathan Morris, Michael Singletary and Calvin Williams were also arrested on possession charges, during a sweep that led to the seizure of "substantial quantities of cocaine, heroin and marijuana," the DA's office said.
"With this drug-dealing dozen behind bars, Red Hook Houses is cleaner and safer today," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said in a statement.
District Attorney Charles J. Hynespraised the NYPD, which "quickly mobilized to address the situation," he said. "Recent organized drug activity in the Red Hook housing developments created a risk to all."
