NJ School Finds Swastika Burned Into Pavement

Authorities in northern New Jersey are investigating who burned a swastika symbol into the pavement at a middle school.

The symbol was discovered behind the Martin J. Ryerson Middle School in Ringwood Sunday evening by a resident walking his dog.

Police tell The Record of Woodland Park that the swastika was about 20 feet in diameter and that it appeared someone poured some type of flammable liquid on the blacktop.

A maintenance crew had removed the swastika by Monday afternoon.

Police are investigating the incident as a bias crime.

It follows on the heels of several attacks on synagogues in northern New Jersey, with the worst being a firebomb attack in Rutherford in January. Two men have been arrested for those attacks.
