When Police Officers Ashleigh Sofia and Benedict Vultaggio received a report about a woman whose iPhone was swiped on a SoHo street, they used a tactic they didn't learn in the academy.
Sofia used her own iPone and a nifty application she'd just downloaded -- Find My iPhone -- to track the thief. The tech-savvy officers used the technology to quickly locate the 15-year-old suspect not far away on Wooster Street. It took them less than a half hour.
The NYPD said iPhone and smart phone thefts are a serious issue, particularly in the city's transit system.
In the last month as many as 9 women have had their phones swiped near the Lexington and 86th Street and 96th Street subways stops: The crook rides a bike and grabs the phones as people are exiting the station.
