Manhattan Drug Bust Ends In 22 Arrests

City law enforcement officials announced today the arrests of 22 people accused of running a massive drug operation.

The New York City Police Department and Manhattan district attorney's office say they were all members of a drug ring that sold cocaine, mainly in East Harlem between 90th Street and 116th Street.

In addition to the arrests, police confiscated stacks of cash, drugs, and weapons.

Investigators identified the kingpin who ran the operation as Ceferino Perez, 45, of the Bronx.

Police say he even had a picture inside his apartment that superimposed his face on Al Pacino's character in "Scarface."

"Every day, as alleged in the indictment and other court documents, Mr. Perez provided his team of traveling salesmen with plenty of product, in this case $20 bags of pre-packaged cocaine, along with company cars and cell phones," said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr.

"He's very proud of what he's doing obviously, and he's quite arrogant. And narcissistic, I'll add that in," said Manhattan North Narcotics Unit Inspector Lori Pollock.

Police say there were also major drug busts in the Bronx and Queens over the weekend, with nearly 100 additional arrests.
