BROOKLYN — A school bus rear-ended by a car that blew through a red light crashed into a store in Flatbush early Thursday, leaving four people injured, officials said.
The school bus, which was not carrying any children, was at Church Avenue and East 21st when a car crashed into the back of it, education and FDNY officials said.
The blast caused the bus to careen into Fisherman's Cove, which is at the northwest corner of the intersection.
"It was really loud," said Kamel Chehbin, 33, who lives on East 21st Street. "It felt like an earthquake.
"Everyone in my house woke up," he added. "All my kids were screaming."
Emergency responders raced to the scene to treat the bus driver and a matron, officials said.
"The driver was...on the ground. His eyes were open, he was talking," Chehbin said. "He was saying another driver ran a red light.
"There was a lot of damage," he added. "The whole front of the bus was damaged. The windshield was smashed."
The four victims sustained minor injuries, officials said. They were taken to Kings County Hospital and Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition, the fire spokesman added.
It was unclear if the driver of the car was charged for running the red light.
No one in the store was injured.
"It could be worse," said Christopher Brown, 50, a worker at Fisherman's Cove who wasn't there at the time of the crash. "It won't affect business. People will come in. You can't stop them.
"It's good nobody got too badly injured," he added.
The school bus is contracted by theDepartment of Education and used by a private yeshiva, said Marge Feinberg, an education spokeswoman.
