An Anonymous program offered cash for guns with no questions asked.
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, District Attorney Kathleen Rice and Acting Police Commissioner Tom Krumpter hosted a Gun Buy Back Program on Saturday. The program took place at Grace Cathedral, located at 944 Jerusalem Avenue in Uniondale.
The program's goal is to get unlicensed guns off the streets.
Individuals were paid $200 cash for every turned in handgun. Guns brought in by car had to be transported in the trunk of the car and had to be unloaded and put in a plastic/paper bag or in a shoe box.
There is no official word on the number of guns that were turned in, however, FOX 5 News has been informed that more than 1,500 guns gave been turned in since the buy back program started.
