A police chase came to a deadly end in Lower Manhattan late Tuesday night.

A suspect attempting to flee from police was struck by at least one car while crossing the FDR Drive at East 6th Street just after 11:30 p.m.
Police were chasing the 22-year-old suspect when he ran across the highway. He dashed onto the road and was struck by a livery cab.

The driver of that vehicle immediately stopped.
EMS responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His devastated family and friends rushed to the area, but were quickly held back by police while they investigated.
Authorities have not said why they were chasing the man.
