Cops: NYPD Officer Killed By DWI Driver

A Long Island man is under arrest, accused of a DWI crash that killed an off-duty NYPD officer.

Jonathan Lopez, 20, of East Meadow faces vehicular manslaughter reckless driving, assault, speeding and DWI charges.

Police say officer Kevin Jessup, 25, of Massapequa was driving his Nissan Maxima east bound on the Southern State Parkway when his car was hit by the alleged drunk driver.

Jessup's car was pushed into the rear end of another vehicle.

Jessup and his passenger, Crystal Simons, 30, of Valley Stream, were rushed to Nassau University Medical Center. Jessup died there.

Simmons was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the third car was also hurt but she was treated and released.

Lopez was arraigned Monday in a Nassau County courtroom. Cash bail was set at $50,000.

His attorney, Fred Pollack, declined to comment.
