Four people are in custody following a home invasion robbery in Bellmore, on Long Island.
Six people were taken to a hospital after the incdient. Two dozen area schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution during the incident.
Police officers fired shots at some of the fleeing suspects, Newsday reported. One of the suspects was reportedly hit in the leg.
Chatterton Elementary School was one of the schools under lockdown. School officials posted a note on the front door of the school stating that no one was allowed to enter the building.
A Nassau University Medical Center spokeswoman said the six patients were transported there, including residents of the home of two of the suspects. Another was a police officer who injured an ankle.
