One man died and another man was left critically injured after they were found face-down in a public pool in Tompkinsville, Staten Island this morning.
Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe says the two men, both in their 20s, were found in the Lyons Pool in Tompkinsville around 8:30 a.m.
They were taken to Richmond University Medical hospital, where one of them died about an hour later.
The pool is only about three-and-a-half feet deep, leading to speculation that they may have been participating in training drills that involved swimming underwater.
The man who is listed in critical condition is a Parks Department lifeguard at another pool.
