Off-duty auxiliary cop shot in Brooklyn

Someone shot and killed an off-duty auxiliary police officer in Brooklyn early Wednesday morning, the NYPD said.

Cops responding to a 911 call at about 6 a.m. found Francky Aleger, 39, with a gunshot wound to his back at East 95 Street and Glenwood Road in Canarsie, authorities said.

Medics took him to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.

Cops have not made any arrests yet.

Investigators suspect robbery as a motive.

Aleger volunteered with the NYPD's Auxiliary Police in Manhattan, according to a report.

Auxiliary police officers are uniformed civilians who act as the eyes and ears of the NYPD and assist with street patrols, traffic control, and other tasks. They do not carry firearms.
