Queens Stabbing Suspect Takes Fatal Plunge Off Train Platform

SUNNYSIDE — A Sunnyside man killed his wife in their home and then leaped off an elevated train platform nearby during rush hour, leaving him in critical condition, police said.

Jennifer Cale, 37, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital earlier in the morning with lacerations to her neck, the FDNY said, and died hours later.

Police believe her husband, Amis, 41, attacked her around 8 a.m. inside their apartment on 39th Place, near 47th Avenue.

The couple's 19-year-old daughter was woken up from a scream to find her father holding a knife and standing over her mother, who was lying in a pool of blood with a slashed throat, said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Then around 9:30, the husband ran to the nearby 40th Street 7 train station and jumped off the elevated platform, falling 50 feet to the sidewalk in an apparent suicide attempt, cops said.

The husband was also taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition, NYPD said.

Elias Suarez, the superintendent of the building where the couple lived, said he ran up to the third floor apartment when he heard screaming.

He found the couple's daughter curled up in bed crying with photographs of her parents.

"I never knew of any problems, of any domestic violence," Suarez said. "They always seemed like a happy couple."
