Twelve people were injured when a school bus collided with a car in Queens Wednesday morning.
Fire officials said a call came in about the crash just before 7:30 a.m. It happened at the intersection of 68th Street and the Long Island Expressway service road.
Ten students were believed to among the 12 who suffered minor injuries. No one was seriously hurt.
All the victims were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.
The cause of the crash was unknown.
An 80-foot piece and 40-foot-piece of the crane fell down shortly after 7:20 p.m. The workers had to be pulled from a hole in the ground, fire officials said.
One of the three victims was critically injured, officials said. Another was seriously injured.
A worker at the site said the crane's boom split when a cable that connected it to the body of the crane snapped.
"The cable snapped and the crane boome went down," said the worker, who declined to give his name. "These cables hold the boom up and keep it from going down," he explained of the pully-like system of the crane, which he called a "one-man operation."
Another worker on the site said at least two of the victims were part of the Building, Concrete, Excavating & Common Laborers Union, Local 731.
"You couldn't hear anything else, it was so loud," said Kennon Murphy, 49, who had just left the Javits Center where he was setting up for the car show when the accident occured. "That was crazy. I hate to see something like that happen."
Three people were injured in a collapse at a construction site in Brooklyn Tuesday.
The collapse occurred at Frank Court and Seba Avenue in Gerritsen Beach.
Authorities said two workers suffered minor injuries and another was seriously hurt.
A 10-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after police say he was hit by a bullet during a shootout in Brooklyn.
Investigators say the boy and his father were walking outside a store on Broadway in Williamsburg, just before 11 p.m. when two rival groups of teens who had been arguing nearby exchanged gunfire.
One of the bullets hit the child.
He was taken to Bellevue hospital where authorities say his injury does not appear to be life threatening.
No arrests have been made.
An investigation is ongoing.

Occupy Wall Street protesters are crossing the Brooklyn Bridge to mark six months since hundreds of them were arrested walking the same route.
A couple of hundred activists started marching Sunday afternoon from Manhattan's Zuccotti Park, where they first camped out last September to start a movement that has spread around the world. They were flanked by police officers on scooters and on foot.
The marchers are using the pedestrian walkway to cross the bridge.
The commemoration is expected to end with a rally in Brooklyn's Cadman Plaza.
Occupy activists dubbed themselves the "99 percent" opposing the economic inequality represented by the wealthy "1 percent."
The Brooklyn gathering will include a "General Assembly" -- as Occupy supporters called their daily meetings in Zuccotti Park where they discussed various protest topics.
MANHATTAN — A body was found in the Harlem Rivernear Inwood Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The corpse was discovered in the water around 3 p.m. and brought to the Bronx side, near Edsall Avenue.
The cause of death was not immediately clear.

MANHATTAN — A man was struck and seriously injured by a train at an Upper West Side station Sunday morning, police said.
The man, in his 50s, was hit by a northbound C train at the 96th Street station, near Central Park West, at 8:10 a.m.
He was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital with head trauma.
A witness saw the man walking on the tracks before he was struck, sources said. It was not immediately clear why he was there.
The train's motorman saw him, but was unable to stop in time, an MTA spokesman said.
Police said there was no criminality suspected in the incident.
